Day 2: RESET
When we’re around our families of origin, it’s inevitable that our 12-year-old selves will get reactivated at some point. Sitting around the dinner table, I’ve been shocked at what I’ve blurted out. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been on the giving or receiving end of a passive-aggressive one-liner, it always leaves me soaked in adrenaline and shame.
After a triggering experience like that, it’s essential to reset so those tough feelings don’t fester and magnify.
Today’s practice goes deep into compression and release as a way to shake off shame, anger, and defensiveness. It’s about reminding ourselves of who we really are. It’s about reclaiming our self worth.
I’ve had the pleasure of doing this practice with Jen and found it to be wonderfully rebalancing and uplifting. It’s a constructive and generative way to deal with stress, tension, and compression—turning something that can feel confining and consuming into something expansive.
May this practice be a lifeboat in the center of stormy seas.
Ahoy maties,
